Louis-Hippolyte Lebas

Louis -Hippolyte Lebas ( born March 31, 1782 Paris, † June 12, 1867 in Paris) was a French architect. He was a pupil of architect Charles Percier and Pierre -François- Léonard Fontaine. In addition to his outstanding teaching some buildings may be mentioned, in which he played a key role.

Buildings

  • His most famous work, the Notre- Dame-de- Lorette in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, for which he was the architect responsible.
  • He also was responsible, under the supervision of his teacher at the Fontaine Chapelle Expiatoire in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, in memory of Louis XVI. and Marie Antoinette by Louis XVIII. was commissioned.
  • Under the direction of Eloi Labarre (1764-1833) he was instrumental role in the completion of the Palais Brongniart, the building of the Paris Stock Exchange, after the originally commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte architect and namesake Alexandre -Théodore Brongniart (1739-1813) before completion had passed away.

Teaching

Louis -Hippolyte Lebas taught at the École des Beaux -Arts 1843-1863. Amongst others he was Teacher of architects.

Memoria

After Lebas a runny between the Rue des Martyrs and Rue de Maubeuge connecting road was named on August 10, 1868 he designed near the church of Notre -Dame-de -Lorette, Rue Hippolyte Lebas.
