Louis I, Count of Flanders

Louis I (c. 1304; † August 26, 1346 at the Battle of Crécy ) was since 1322, Count of Flanders (as Ludwig II ), Count of Nevers and Rethel, Baron of Donzy. He was the son of Count Ludwig I of Nevers and Joan of Rethel, the grandson of Count Robert III. of Flanders.

He married on July 21, 1320 - in accordance with the terms of the Treaty of Paris - Margarete (around 1312-1382 ), daughter of the French king, Philip V, which was in 1361 Countess Palatine of Burgundy, Lady of Salins, Countess of Artois and Peer of France.

With the support of his father, he succeeded in suppressing the revolt of Nikolaas Zannekin.

He and Margaret had one son: Ludwig II ( Ludwig Male ) ( 1339-1384 ), who became his successor.

Ludwig was buried in Bruges Sint- Donaaskerk.
