Louis Valtat

Louis Valtat ( born August 8, 1869 in Dieppe, † 1952 in Paris) was a French painter. He is assigned to the circle of the " Fauves ".

Life and work

1888 Valtat entered the Académie Julian in Paris, where the " treasurer " Sérusier Gauguin principles mediated by the use of pure color. The next year, followed by a short stay at Atelier Gustave Moreau. In 1894 he painted together with Toulouse -Lautrec sets the stage for Le Chariot de terre cuite on Théàtre de l'Oeuvre.

From 1903 to refer the pictures, which he exhibited at the Salon d' Automne, attention to what will bring the Fauvism. At the Salon d' Automne of 1905, however, led his pictures - although Valtats style also not coated represented than in previous years - a scandal which was not less than that which was triggered by the paintings in the " Hall of the Wild ".

1914 moved Valtat from the south of France to Paris forever. The family lives very face, he had numerous pictures of his wife and son painted. The contract, which he joined in 1900 with Vollard and was valid until 1912, ensured that many of his paintings were in the hands of great collector, so that of the Russians Morozov.

1948 had Valtat give up painting because he became blind.
