Louise of Anhalt-Dessau

Luise of Anhalt- Dessau ( born February 10, 1631 Dessau, † April 25, 1680 in Ohlau ) was through her marriage Duchess of Legnica, Brieg, Wohlau and Ohlau. She came from the princely house of Anhalt -Dessau.

Life

Louise was the daughter of Anhalt- Dessau prince John Casimir from his marriage to Agnes of Hesse- Kassel. On November 24, 1648 in Dessau married the then Duke Christian Wohlauer. The couple had children:

  • Charlotte (1652-1707), since 1672 married to Duke Frederick of Holstein -Sonderburg- Wiesenburg.
  • Luise (1657-1660)
  • Georg Wilhelm I (1660-1675)
  • Christian Ludwig ( born January 15, 1664 † February 27, 1664 )

1662 Louise received by the Dowager Empress Eleonore the Order of the slaves of virtue. There was a lady north, also open to Protestants and whose emblem was the golden sun. After her husband's death in 1672 Louise took over the guardianship of her son Georg Wilhelm and the regency whose inherited the duchies of Liegnitz, Brieg and Wohlau. The Duchy Ohlau she received last will and testament to their own lifelong usufruct as a widow seat. After daughter Charlotte secretly married on 14 July 1672 Duke Frederick of Holstein -Sonderburg- Wiesenburg without Louise's knowledge, Louise got into trouble. From their advisors their failure was accused, so they called for an end to their reign. These circumstances ultimately led also to the fact that the Hereditary Prince Georg Wilhelm was prematurely declared of age by Emperor Leopold on 14 March 1675 and at the same time got transferred his duchies as fiefs. Afterwards resided Duchess Luise in Ohlau. There she led the expansion of the castle to the so-called Luisenbau. For the Town Hall Tower Ohlauer they founded the movement known with the figure of Ohlauer death.

After Georg Wilhelm's early death in 1675 fell Legnica and its duchies and Louise's jointure Ohlau as a completed fief to the crown of Bohemia.

1677 Louise was in the choir of St. John's Church Liegnitzer who already served as a grave place of the Dukes of Liegnitz, build a magnificent royal crypt under the artistic ideas of their advisor, the Silesian Baroque poet Caspar von Lohenstein. The architectural design was created by Carlo Rossi. The four life-size alabaster statues created by the sculptor Matthias Müller smoke.
