Louiseville

Louiseville is a town ( ville) and capital of the MRC Maskinongé the Canadian province of Quebec.

It is located about halfway between Montreal and the provincial capital of Quebec City on the north shore of Lac Saint- Pierre, a river widening of the St. Lawrence River, about 35 km west of the city Trois- Rivières. The Rivière du Loup flows through the city short of its confluence with the Lac Saint- Pierre.

Naming

It was named the city in honor of Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria.

History

In 1665 the place Rivière du Loup was founded, which was named Rivière- Manereuil for several years. 1879 Riviere du Loup was renamed in Louiseville. On 31 January 1888, Louiseville merged with Saint -Antoine -de- la -Rivière -du -Loup and received the status of a city.
