Louisiana road (Croatia)

The Luis Street ( kroat. Lujzijana or Lujzinska cesta ) is located in Croatia. It was still built in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and should the old and very curvy Karolinenstraße ( kroat. Karolina ) replace. The Luis road connects the interior with the coast of Croatia. The connection was established between the City of Karlovac ( Karlstadt ) and the major Adriatic port of Rijeka ( Fiume ). 1842, the road was completed. The owner was Joseph Philip Vukasović.

About the origin of the name Luis road, there are different opinions. At the start of construction, it was decided to call the street " Via Ludovicea ," according to Maria Ludovica, the third wife of the Austrian Emperor Francis II. Testify documents from the year 1808. However, the road was completed under French administration. Therefore, many think that it was named after Marie -Louise, the daughter of the Austrian Emperor Francis II, later the wife of Napoleon I..

The road was at the time of completion as one of the most modern roads in the world. Today, there is also a motorway link between Karlovac and Rijeka (A 1 to the junction " Bosiljevo 2 ", then take the A 6), which largely follows the route of the road Luis and their great economic importance shows.
