Low Iceland (Spanish Isla Baja, German as " low island ", old names are Jameson Jameson's Iceland or Iceland ) is the southernmost island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands. The name was given the island by sealers because of the absence of significant elevations.

Geography

Low Iceland is located in the southwest of the South Shetland Islands, 22.5 km south east of Smith Iceland and around 90 km from the Antarctic continent. The island has a length of 16 km, a circumference of nearly 64 miles and has an area of ​​181.2 km ². The flat island is almost completely covered by an ice cap.
