Lowell Liebermann

Lowell Liebermann ( born February 22, 1961 in New York City ) is an American composer, pianist and conductor.

Life

Liebermann was born in 1961 in New York City. Liebermann began at the age of 8 years playing the piano at the age of 14 and with composition lessons. Two years later he made his debut as a performer of his, composed by him with 15 years of self- Piano Sonata Op 1, at Carnegie Recital Hall. His studied music at the Juilliard School of Music with David Diamond and Vincent Persichetti the degree of Master and later a doctorate. To Liebermann's numerous awards include a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters as well as prices of ASCAP and BMI (BMI Student Composer Awards).

Lieberman currently lives with his partner, the pianist and conductor William Hobbs, openly gay in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Work

Lowell Liebermann's catalog of works already recorded over 100 compositions. In addition to two operas ( The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1996, and Miss Lonely Hearts, 2006), he wrote three symphonies (UA No. 2 with Choir 2000; UA No. 3 on 4 November 2010 by JoAnn Falletta and the Virginia Symphony ) as well as solo concerts ( including 3 piano concertos and a 1992 first performed by James Galway Flute Concerto ). Emerged so far for board composition, inter alia, 4 string quartets, and a number of sonatas, as well as a larger number of piano works.

Liebermann, who is also active as a pianist and conductor, one of the most frequently performed American composers. From a considerable part of his works which are published by the Theodore Presser Company, are CD recordings. Stephen Hough's interpretation of the 2nd Piano Concerto under Liebermann's line has been nominated for the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.

His piano work " Gargoyles " has been variously listed by the Chinese-American pianist Wang Yujia.
