Stephen Hough

Stephen Hough CBE ( born November 22, 1961 in Heswall, Merseyside, England ) is an English pianist.

Life

After his victory at the Naumburg Piano Competition in 1983, Hough initially focused on rather arcane, tend to be romantic repertoire. A recording of two piano concertos of Mozart 's pupil Johann Nepomuk Hummel made ​​him known internationally.

Hough played a recording of Mompou, Lowell Liebermann, Corigliano and George Tsontakis. As references also his recordings of Romantic piano concertos by Emil von Sauer and Xaver Scharwenka which won a Gramophone Award, as well as all works for piano and orchestra by Camille Saint- Saëns apply.

A special love for Sergei Rachmaninoff cherishes Hough. His style of interpretation is regarded as brilliant and fresh. He lives in the UK and in the USA. Hough lives openly gay. Hough 2005 published the book The Bible as Prayer: a handbook for lectio divina.

2001 he was a MacArthur Fellow. 2014 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
