Łubowice, Silesian Voivodeship

Lubowitz (Polish Łubowice ) is a town in Upper Silesia. Lubowitz located in the town of Rudnik in Raciborski powiat ( county Ratibor ) in the Polish province of Silesia. Lubowitz has 365 inhabitants.

Lubowitz is known as the birthplace of the German poet Joseph von Eichendorff.

Geography

Lubowitz is located six kilometers northeast of the municipal center Rudnik, nine kilometers north of the county town Racibórz ( Ratibor ) and 56 kilometers west of the voivodship of Katowice. Lubowitz is situated on the Oder.

Neighboring towns of Lubowitz are in the northwest Gacki ( Gatzki ), in the north Grzegorzowice ( Gregorsdorf ) and in the south Ligota Książęca ( Herzoglich Ellguth ).

History

Lubowitz was first mentioned in 1376.

In the plebiscite in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921 voted 39 voters to remain in Germany and 123 for Poland, in Gutsbezirk Lubowitz 41 people voted for Germany and 17 for Poland .. Lubowitz remained with the German Reich. 1933 lived 343 inhabitants in the village. 1939, the place had 359 inhabitants. By 1945, the place was in the district Ratibor.

In 1945 the previously German place under Polish administration and renamed Łubowice and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. From 1945 to 1954, Łubowice seat of the municipality Łubowice. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship. In 1975, the place to Katowice Voivodeship. With the turn of the Eichendorff Club was founded in the town in 1989. In 1999 the place to powiat Raciborski and Silesian Voivodeship. On 12 July 2000, the Upper Silesian Eichendorff - cultural and community center was opened.

Since April 11, 2008 Lubowitz leads in addition to previously only official Polish place name Łubowice the German place names Lubowitz. Lubowitz is the first place in Silesia, which leads a German place names and also the first place with a German name in a community in the known less than 20 % of the inhabitants of the German minority. The German place names were unveiled on 4 September 2008 at 13:00 clock in the presence of Voivod Zygmunt Łukaszczyk.

  • In Lubowitz is the Upper Silesian Eichendorff - cultural and meeting center, participated in the opening ceremony on 12 July 2000 as a surprise guest of the German entertainer Thomas Gottschalk, who frankly committed to its origins in Silesia and the Center donated $ 50,000.
