Luc de Clapiers, Marquis de Vauvenargues

Luc de Clapiers, Marquis de Vauvenargues ( born August 6 1715 in Aix -en- Provence, † May 28, 1747 in Paris) was a French philosopher, moralist and writer.

Life

Little is known about Vauvenargues youth. 1735, he joined the French army and served in the Polish Succession War and the War of Austrian Succession. For health reasons, he had to acknowledge the service in 1744 and moved in 1745 to Paris, where he joined the philosophy and literature turned.

Vauvenargues interest in ancient philosopher was the Stoics front of everyone. He dealt with the big issues of the later Romantic: Heart, Nature, passion, love, and believed basically that humans will evolve despite its variability for the better. Lover of his works tell him happy after that he had brought back heart in the age of absolutism.

His major work, Introduction à la Connaissance de l' Esprit Humain, suivie de Réflexions et maximes consists of the eponymous essay and over 700 reflections and maxims that illustrate his philosophy in aphoristic form.

Vauvenargues sat down his life demonstrated with the writings of Voltaire apart.
