Ludovico Carracci

Lodovico Carracci (* April 21, 1555 in Bologna, † November 13, 1619 ) was an Italian painter.

Carracci devoted himself only in his native city under Prospero Fontana, then in Venice, Florence, Parma, Mantua and Venice again in thorough studies after Titian, Tintoretto, Andrea del Sarto, Correggio and others.

On his return to Bologna, he founded with his cousins Agostino Carracci Annibale Carracci and the Accademia degli Incamminati ( " the detainees to the right path "), which was previously called Accademia dei Desiderosi ( " those who want to strive for the progress / reach Academy " ) was, and succeeded, in spite of the bitter rivalry between the old painter, the young aspiring artists shaft Bologna to lure you into her studio and train the same by thorough instruction. The Carracci had the great old masters, notably in Correggio, back, where they endeavored to combine the advantages to them, without them it would be completely successful.

Despite this eclecticism, but Lodovico was a great painter; a careful study, deep color and often a surprising delicacy of feeling expression characterize him. Of course, he worked with coarser effects than the big old, and the pathetic 17th century is in large part due to him. Most of his paintings, in oil and fresco, can still be found in Bologna ( including the seven large frescoes in the monastery of San Michele in Bosco, frescoes in the cathedral of Piacenza).

His last painting was The Annunciation Cathedral in Bologna; the grief of a mind too late discovered errors to have brought him death.
