Ludovico Chigi Albani della Rovere

Fra ' Ludovico Chigi Albani della Rovere (* July 10, 1866 in Ariccia, † November 14, 1951 in Rome), 8th Prince of Farnese and Campagnano, 4th Prince of Soriano, 8th Duke of Ariccia and Formello, Marquess de Magliana Pecorareci, hereditary Marshal of the Holy Roman Church and guardian / protector of the Conclave; was on May 30, 1931 until his death by heart attack in 1951, the 76th Grand Master of the Order of Malta.

Under his leadership, the great care and charitable activities of the Order developed during the Second World War.

In 1947 he became president of the International Committee to oversee the reconstruction of the Abbey of Monte Cassino.

Chigi was responsible for three papal conclaves. He was an honorary member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

Family

Chigi was a member of the famous princely families of Rome, he was the son of Prince Mario Chigi Albani Knight of Malta della Rovere (1832-1914), Prince of the Holy Roman Empire, and his wife Princess Antoinette of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Sayn ( 1837-1918 ).

On June 5, 1893 Chigi in Rome married Donna Anna Aldobrandini Princess of Sarsina ( born December 8, 1874 in Rome, † September 17, 1898 in Ariccia), daughter of Prince Pietro Aldobrandini, Prince of Sarsina, and his wife, Françoise Charlotte Victorine Marie de La Rochefoucauld.

They had two children:

  • Prince Sigismondo Chigi Albani della Rovere ( born December 12, 1894 in Rome, † December 24, 1982 in Rome)
  • Princess Laura Maria Caterina Chigi Albani della Rovere ( born April 30, 1898 in Rome, † November 4, 1984 in Rome)
