Ludvig Mathias Lindeman

Ludvig Mathias Lindeman ( born November 28, 1812 in Trondheim, Trondheim today, † May 23, 1887 in Kristiania, now Oslo ) was a Norwegian composer and collector of folk songs.

The son of the organist Ole Andreas Lindeman studied theology and music. He was organist in 1846 and 1849 in Kristiania singing teacher at the Theological Seminary. In 1883 he founded with his son Peter Lindeman Byrnie the Norwegian Academy of Music, from which emerged in 1894 from the Conservatory of Kristiania.

Lindeman composed Preludes and Fugues for the Organ and songs. In addition, he published the collection of folk songs Ældre og norske nyere Fjeldmelodier, published by the twelve volumes 1853-1863. A sequel came out in 1867 and a revised edition in 1874. It contained sung and played on the Hardanger fiddle and langeleik melodies, resorted to the Edvard Grieg and Johan Svendsen in their works.
