Ludwig Passini

Ludwig Johann Passini ( born July 9, 1832 in Vienna, † November 6, 1903 in Venice) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Ludwig Passini was the son of the engraver Johann Nepomuk Passini. After his first art lessons from his father, he was able to attend the Art Academy of his native town, where he student of the painter Joseph of Fiihrich and Leopold Kupelwieser was for the most part. 1850 Passini twisted together with his parents to Trieste. A little later he settled in Venice, where he was trained in the studio of Karl Werner on watercolor painter; later he accompanied Werner on its study tour of Italy.

Between 1853 and 1870 lived Passini in Rome, where he began to do with genre painting, like architecture pieces and interiors with figures a name. On November 9, 1864 Ludwig Passini married in Berlin Anna Warsaw ( 1841-1866 ), a daughter of Robert and Marie Warschauer, great-granddaughter of Joseph and great- great-granddaughter Mendelssohn Moses Mendelssohn. The couple, who lived in Berlin and Rome alternately had a daughter. Anna Passini died barely one and a half years after the wedding. 1873 Ludwig Passini settled down for the rest of his life in Venice itself. In his late watercolors, there are often scenes of Venetian life of the people.

1878 Passini was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour, and in the following year, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna honored him with the title " honorary professor ". The art academies of Berlin and Venice, he was a member of also.
