Ludwig Wilhelm, Prince of Bentheim and Steinfurt

Prince Ludwig Wilhelm zu Bentheim and Steinfurt (* August 1, 1812; † September 28, 1890 ) was a German nobleman and royal Hanoverian and Prussian lieutenant general.

Ludwig zu Bentheim and Steinfurt was a son of Prince Alexius of Bentheim and Steinfurt (1781-1866) and his wife Wilhelmine, born Princess of Solms- Braunfels ( 1793-1865 ).

He was, from 1844 captain à la suite of the royal Hanoverian Regiment Garde du Corps and rose to Major in 1849, Lieutenant-Colonel in 1855, Colonel in 1859, Major General in 1862 and in 1879 to lieutenant general on.

1866 Louis came of Bentheim and Steinfurt succeeded his father as head of the royal house. He was hereditary in the following year a member of the Prussian House of Lords, a member of the first Hanoverian chamber and the Westphalian county council.

Since 1875 he was also a member of the Württemberg Chamber of lords. He inherited the mandate of his 1873 died childless uncle, Prince Ferdinand of Solms- Braunfels. Prince Ludwig never personally appeared in the Württemberg Chamber. Since 1884 he was represented by his son Alexis of Bentheim and Steinfurt in Stuttgart.
