Luigi Serafini

Luigi Serafini (* August 4, 1949 in Rome ) is an Italian artist, architect, illustrator and designer. His most famous work is the Codex Seraphinianus, an illustrated encyclopedia of imaginary things is just as with artificial letters, written in a hitherto undeciphered artificial language. The Code was first published in 1981 by the Milanese publisher Franco Maria Ricci.

Life

After completing his studies in architecture at the Politecnico in Milan Serafini worked as a designer for the Office of Ettore Sottsass, for Italian television, for various feature films, including Federico Fellini's La Voce della Luna, as well as a set designer, costume and lighting designer for the Scala and the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.

Serafini illustrated among others books by Franz Kafka, Michael Ende and Jules Renard.
