Luis Durnwalder

Luis Durnwalder (actually Alois Durnwalder; born September 23, 1941 in palaces ) is a former politician of the South Tyrolean People's Party and was from 1989 to 2014 Governor of South Tyrol.

Life

After his schooling in palaces and Brixen and original plans, the Augustinian Canons to join in Neustift near Brixen, located Durnwalder opted for the study of law in Vienna and Innsbruck and Agricultural Sciences in Vienna and Florence. During this time he began with the political activity and was chairman of the South Tyrolean Students' Union ( until 1965 ). He is a member of the Catholic Student Access Connections stone Vienna and honor the Philistines K.St.V. Rhenaniastraße Innsbruck in CT and ÖKV.

In 1969 he became mayor of his home town, in 1973 Member of Parliament and Regional Councillor for the land register. During this time he worked simultaneously as a director of the South Tyrolean Farmers' Federation and relocated to Bolzano. After the parliamentary elections of 1978 he became a member of the provincial government. From 1989 to 2014 he was the state government before as governor.

In the state elections in 1998 and 2003, he was able to unite the South Tyrolean all language groups more than 100,000 preference votes, ie, more than a quarter of all voters have given him their votes. In the 2008 elections Durnwalder was re-elected with 97 868 preference votes.

On August 16, 2012 Luis Durnwalder told a press conference that he would no longer stand in the regional elections of 2013 available in South Tyrol as a candidate for the office of the Governor and his political career thus end. He was succeeded by Arno Kompatscher.
