Luis Giannattasio

Luis Giannattasio Finocchietti (* 1894 in Montevideo, † February 7, 1965 in Punta del Este ) was a Uruguayan politician.

Giannattasio graduated from the Mathematics Department of the Universidad de la República and graduated in the field of road and bridge at the age of 24 years successfully. By means of scholarship he continued his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology continues in the local Cambridge. From there he returned to his homeland, where he was both in the Municipality of Montevideo, as well as at the University, where he headed from 1921 courses in the fields of hydraulics, Civil Engineering, health engineering, industrial health education and construction administration.

In the years 1945 to 1947, he stood in front of the Uruguayan Construction Chamber ( Cámara de la Construcción ) and belonged from 1946 to 1950 the management committee of the Association of Engineering. Giannattasio practiced further within the University Association after previous Vice Presidency, chaired from. In addition, he was a founding member and president of the Pan-American Engineering Association ( Unión Panamericana de Sociedad de Ingeniería, UPADI ), whose honorary president he was awarded in 1960. On the part of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he received on August 6, 1954 in São Paulo also an honorary membership. He was also a member of the advisory committee of the World Health Organization

In the course of his political career led Giannattasio, the Partido Nacional and belonged to the flow of Herrerismo within these Unión Blanca Democrática with, from 1 March 1959 to 28 February 1963, the Ministry of Construction. From 1 March 1964 to February 7, 1965, he was Chairman of the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno and was at that time President of Uruguay. Its actually continued until March 1, 1965 term ended prematurely because he died in office.

In the Ciudad de la Costa carries one of the main streets of the city its name.
