Luis Perdomo (pianist)

Luis Perdomo ( born February 19, 1971 in Caracas ) is a Venezuelan -derived, working in the United States jazz pianist and arranger.

Life and work

Perdomo is from Venezuela and had as a child piano lessons; as a teenager he was the house pianist in jazz clubs of Caracas. At 22 he moved to New York City where he has lived ever since. He studied both jazz and classical music at the Manhattan School of Music and Queens College. Through the mediation of Roland Hanna, he received first gigs at the Jazz Gallery in Manhattan as a sideman saxophonist Yosvany Terry; In the following years he worked also with David Gilmore, Jerry Gonzalez and The Fort Apache band, Dafnis Prieto, John Benitez, Brian Lynch, and with Ray Barretto, for which he also arranged. He was a longtime member of the bands of Ravi Coltrane (Spirit Fiction, 2012) and Miguel Zenón ( Awake, 2006); Furthermore, he began to work with his own bands; In 2003 he recorded his debut album, Focus Point ( RKM Music), which was produced by Ravi Coltrane. Perdomo, who was involved, inter alia, even when shooting from Monday Michiru and Hans Glawischnig is influenced by Chick Corea, McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock.
