Luis Vélez de Guevara
Luis Vélez de Guevara ( born August 1, 1579 Ecija, Seville, † November 10, 1644 in Madrid) was a Spanish playwright and novelist in the Renaissance.
Life
Vélez studied at the University of Osuna, Page served as the Archbishop of Seville and fought in Italy ( 1600-1605 ). Vélez was known for his humor and enjoyed the support of several noble patrons, until he got a job at the court of the Spanish King Philip IV. The eternally indebted Vélez married four times. With 400 plays, 80 of which have been preserved to Velez secured a place among the greatest dramatists in Spain's " Golden Age ". Vélez was often inspired by Lope de Vega, but he also had his own literary qualities.

- " Reinar después de morir " deals with the legendary love and the death of Inês de Castro.
- " La serrana de la Vera " is about a bandit who takes revenge on her abuser.
- His picaresque novel " El diablo cojuelo " ( 1641) was in 1707 the Frenchman Alain -René Lesage as a model " Le Diable boiteux ".
