Luke Steyn

Luke Henri Steyn ( born June 7, 1993, Harare ) is a Zimbabwean skier. It occurs in all the different competitions and was at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 the first party of Zimbabwe at the Olympic Winter Games.

Life and career

Steyn was born in 1993 in Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, where he spent his first two years of life. At the age of two, he moved with his family to train in Switzerland where he gained first experience in skiing and was trained from the age of nine years in just this. He completed his first official FIS races in 2008; his first two listed races are two Junior Slalom races in the Norwegian ski resort of Geilo on November 22, 2008 Only three days later, he completed his first FIS race in the adult area. ; Super-G of Hemsedal, he finished only the 149th place. In addition to his career as a ski racer, the native Zimbabweans began studying business administration at the UC of Boulder, a state university in Boulder, Colorado. There he joined the USCSA ski team and represented the team from now on in numerous races. While still a student, he was summer 2013 as the first participant of Zimbabwe at the Olympic Winter Games selected after he had successfully qualified for the big tournament. To achieve even his remaining at the time missing qualification points, he was released from his university for a year to support him in his qualification for the Olympics. The International Olympic Committee awarded the young Zimbabweans in 2013 an Olympic scholarship, which had a validity from July 2013 to February 2014, and also support technically the athlete next to financial and support, in order to achieve the required qualification points and participate in the Olympic Winter Games to ensure.

His performances at the Olympics were on 19 February, the giant slalom (57th place ) and on 22 February the slalom competition. When invasion during the opening ceremony Steyn was the only participant of his country at the same time the standard bearer of Zimbabwe.
