The Luleå Airport is the largest in northern Sweden ( Norrland ) Airport. It is used for both civil ( scheduled and charter flights ) and commercial ( as Kallax Cargo Airport) and militarily. It is located seven kilometers south of the city of Luleå.

Civil airport

With 983 194 passengers in 2010, the airport is the sixth largest Luleå Sweden after Stockholm-Arlanda, Gothenburg -Landvetter, Stockholm -Skavsta, Stockholm -Bromma and Malmö. De-icing fluid ( glycol ) can be recycled environmentally friendly in Luleå in contrast to the practice in all other Swedish airports. Waste is separated into seven categories. The runway is 3350 meters with the longest in Sweden.

At the airport there is the school of aviation Nordiskt FlygTeknikCentrum where you can study aerospace engineering aircraft mechanic, aircraft technician and in cooperation with the Technical University of Luleå. Until the dissolution of the brand and the LTU cooperated with the school.

Cargo airport

The same runway is being used for civil, cargo and military flights. For cargo flights it is since its extension in 2000, according to the Kallax Cargo AB is the longest commercial runway modern Sweden. Longer runways for freight transport can be found in Northern Europe only in Oslo Gardermoen and Copenhagen - Kastrup. The cargo airport is operated by the Swedish Air Force, which provides for the maintenance of the runway and snow freedom. The control of Kallax Cargo Airport done by Kallax Cargo AB which belongs to two-thirds of NCC AB and AB Fastighet Norrporten and one third of the city of Luleå.

Military airfield

The airfield has been used by the military since 1944. At the airport there is the largest Swedish Air Force Base, F 21, which uses the same runway as the civilian flights. Other intra- Swedish Air Force bases are, for example, F 7 in Såtenäs in Lidköping and F 17 in Ronneby.
