Luribay

Luribay is the provincial capital of the province Loayza in the La Paz Department in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Luribay is the central place of the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Luribay and lies at an altitude of 2554 m on the left bank of the Río Luribay in one of the eastern valleys of the Serranía de Sicasica, approximately 100 line kilometers southeast of La Paz, the capital of the departments.

Geography

Luribay lies between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands to the east. The region exhibits a typical day time environment, in which the mean temperature difference between day and night is greater than the temperature difference between seasons.

The average annual temperature of the region is just under 15 ° C and varies between 11-12 ° C in June / July and about 16 ° C in November (see climate chart ). The annual rainfall is 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August and monthly rainfall of over 100 mm in January and February.

Infrastructure

Luribay lies at a distance of 176 kilometers of road southeast of La Paz, the capital of the department.

From La Paz from the paved highway Ruta 1 leads in a southerly direction 104 miles to Patacamaya. From there branches six kilometers further south down a dirt side road towards the northeast, to overcome the mountain passes of more than 4,750 m. It leads over Anchallani and reached after a total of 66 kilometers Luribay.

Because of the historical population development, the Aymara population is predominant in this region, in the municipality of Luribay 97.3 % of the population speak the Aymara language.

The most famous personality of the place is the former Bolivian President José Manuel Pando (1899-1904), who was born here in 1848.
