Lurtigen

Lurtigen (? French Lourtens; Freiburg Patois Lurtin / i ) is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The partially still common French name of the municipality is Lourtens.

Geography

Lurtigen is located on 567 m above sea level. M., 4 km east of the district town of Murten (air line). The farming village extends on a hill between the Galmwald Murten and the forest, on the Molassehöhen in the northern Fribourg plateau.

The area of ​​2.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhône glacier Molassehöhen between Murten and the Saanen valley. The northern boundary runs in a Talniederung on the southern edge of Lake Murten forest. From here, the municipality base ( highest elevation of Lurtigen in Buggli at 592 m above sea level. M. ) and the valley of Lurtigenbachs up in the Galmwald extends southward over the rise of Lurtigen (590 m above sea level. M. ). In the west, the area extends into the Salvenachfeld. A small exclave located on the eastern edge of Lake Murten forest. The municipal area is drained to Biberen. From the municipality surface 1997 4 % came from settlements, 34 % of forest and woody plants and 62% to agriculture.

To Lurtigen include some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Lurtigen are Murten, Ulmiz and Salvenach as well as the community no associated region of the state forest Galm.

Population

With 182 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Lurtigen one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the residents 97.8 % are German, 1.1 % French-speaking and 0.6 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Lurtigen amounted in 1900 to 200 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population increased to 1980 from 160 people. Since then a slight population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Lurtigen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In Lurtigen there is a cheese factory and an operation of the heating system construction. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Murten and Kerzers.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Salvenach after Gempenach. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern -Lausanne ) is located approximately 6 km from the town center. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois that leads from Murten to Gümmenen, Lurtigen is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1397 under the name Lurtens; 1558 appeared the name Lurtingen. The place name is probably derived from the Gallo-Roman personal name Laurentius.

Since the Middle Ages Lurtigen was under the rule of Murten. 1475 reached the village as part of the bailiwick of Murten under the joint administration of the estates of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) Lurtigen came to the Canton of Fribourg. During the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time it belonged to the district of Murten, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.

Attractions

In the center are some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries. In Ofehüsli is still occasionally baked bread. The school building dates from 1812 and has a precious old watch.
