Lushnjë District

The circle Lushnja (Albanian: Rrethi i Lushnjës ) is one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania. The circle with an area of 712 km ² belongs to Qark Fier. It was named after the main town Lushnja. The county has 117 913 inhabitants ( 2011 census ), the local government indicating even 176 377 people. With a population density of 248 inhabitants / km ², the circle is one of the five districts of Albania dichtestbesiedelsten.

Geography

The district is located in the northern part of the very shallow Myzeqe level. To the west, the Myzeqe by two ranges of hills, the Kodrat e Divjakës ( Divjaka Hill ) and subsequent to the south Kodrat is e Ardenicës ( Ardenica Hill ) is limited. Lagoon Karavasta and Pisha e Divjakës

Separated by only a few dunes and marshland from the sea, the lagoon is Karavasta (Albanian: Laguna e Karavastasë ) west of Lushnja. This brackish water lagoon between the mouths of the two rivers Shkumbin and Seman and its surroundings are among the most important conservation areas of Albania. The National Park Divjake - Karavasta is protected by the international Ramsar Convention since 1994. Around the lagoon breed numerous rare species of birds, including pelicans. On the coast there is a large pine forest, which lent its name to the National Park. This part of the circle Lushnja could gain tourist importance in the future. Monastery Ardenica

A major landmark in the district Lushnja is the Orthodox monastery Ardenica. The historic building is located on a small hill near the road from Lushnka after Fier. The plant is one of the most important monasteries in Albania.

History

The Myzeqe level was still bogged down during the Second World War. At the draining of the marshes also many political prisoners had to participate. During the communist system were numerous villages in the district Lushnja as a place of exile for families of political prisoners. They had to obtain gainful hard field work and could not leave the villages.

Economy

In addition to the nascent tourism in the construction of the circuit depends mainly on agriculture. The fertile Myzeqe - level is the " breadbasket " of Albania. The only other large town in the heavily rural district is Divjaka with 8400 inhabitants north of Karavasta lagoon and located about ten kilometers from the sea. Bigger, however, the community is Tërbuf with 10,200 inhabitants situated in the northeast of Divjaka less away from the highways.
