Lyle H. Lanier

Lyle Hicks Lanier (* 1903, † December 30, 1988 in Phoenix, Arizona ) was an American psychologist and university lecturer.

Life

Lanier graduated from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and received his MA at the Peabody College (1924 ) and PhD ( 1926). From 1926 to 1938 he taught psychology at Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of the Southern Agrarians. From 1932 to 1936 he was president of the Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology.

At the University of Illinois from 1950 to 1958 he was Professor and Head of the Department of Psychology; 1960 to 1972 then vice president. Later worked for the American Council on Education in Washington DC.
