Lyutvi Ahmedov

Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov, Bulgarian Лютви Джибер Ахмедов, ( born April 10, 1930 in Podajwa, Oblast Razgrad, † 1997) was a Bulgarian wrestler. He was world champion in 1959 and winner of a silver medal at the 1964 Olympic games in free style at heavyweight.

Career

Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov was a member of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria. He came in 1948 to wrestle, especially as the struggle was particularly promoted in socialist Bulgaria. Started not a single Bulgarian wrestlers at the Olympic Games in Helsinki yet in 1952. In 1956 Bulgaria was able to celebrate his first Olympic gold medalist in wrestling with Nikola Stantschew. Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov trained in the newly established training center in Razgrad.

His first success on the international wrestling mat, he celebrated in 1955 when he finished second in free style at the 3rd World Festival of Youth in Warsaw, one led by the socialist states event, heavyweight behind the Soviet Ringer Georgi Kandelaki.

Although Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov preferred the free style, but was occasionally also in the Greco-Roman. Style at the start and in this style very successfully. So was the first World Cup, which he played in the Graeco-Roman. Style in Budapest. He defeated among others there Hamit Kaplan from Turkey and wrestled with Ragnar Svensson from Sweden and Ivan Bogdan draw from the Soviet Union. He came therefore to 2nd place and became vice - world champion in the heavyweight division.

In 1959 he competed at the World Championships in Tehran in free style. This World Cup has been relatively sparse. He therefore submitted two wins, one of them against Herbert Albrecht from Zella -Mehlis and two draws against Sawkus Dscharasow from the Soviet Union and Hamit Kaplan to win the world champion title.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 disappointed Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov. He came in free style in the heavyweight division only to a victory and fought against János Režňák from Hungary, William Kerslake, USA & Hamit Kaplan undecided, which he reached only the 5th place and a medal missed.

In 1961, he was unable to start at the World Championships in Yokohama, because no Ringer Bulgaria sent team to Yokohama because of high costs. In 1962, he was but at the world championships in Toledo / USA it again. In the free style, he won among others against János Režňák and wrestled with Alexander Iwanizki from the Soviet Union and the Olympic champion in 1960 and world champion from 1961 Wilfried Dietrich from the Federal Republic of Germany undecided. He came so behind Iwanizki to 2nd place, ahead of Wilfried Dietrich.

In 1963 was Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov again at the World Championships in free style in Sofia in the heavyweight division runners-up. He won it, inter alia, about Wilfried Dietrich. But the world title cost him two draws against János Režňák and Alexander Iwanizki. In the same year he started in Helsingborg at the World Championships in Greco -Roman style, reached there but only the 6th Place. But He wrestled at least against Wilfried Dietrich again draw.

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 he also won an Olympic medal with the silver medal. He started in free style, scoring four wins and a draw against Alexander Iwanizki. Iwanizki had the better points of failure ratio and thus became Olympic champion.

In 1965 he competed at the World Championships in Manchester again in free style at heavyweight. After four victories he achieved against Larry Kristoff from the U.S. and Alexander Iwanizki draw and got away with it for the fifth time at an international championship to 2nd place.

The last part in an international championship of Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov was at the European Championships 1966 in Karlsruhe. He finished there in the heavyweight an excellent 2nd place, although he suffered a surprising point defeat of the German debutants Gerd Volz. Against Alexander Medvedev from the USSR he wrestled a draw.

Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov denied in his career at Olympic Games and World Championships a total of 39 fights. Of these 39 fights he has not lost. However, he wrestled at 22 wins 17 times only draw. This testifies to his defensive ring style that was responsible for the fact that he only won once at these championships and five times and took 2nd place. Nevertheless Ljutwi Dschiber Akhmedov was of course a great and successful wrestler.
