1962 World Wrestling Championships

The Wrestling World Championships 1962 took place from 21 to 27 June 1962 in Toledo instead. It was fought in both the Greco-Roman and free style. The wrestlers were divided into eight weight classes.

Greco-Roman

The competitions in the Greco-Roman style were held until 27 June 1962 by 25. The wrestlers from the Soviet Union, Hungary and Turkey formed a seemingly undurchbrechbare superiority. Only Masamitsu Ichiguchi (Japan ) defeated Amari Egadse (Soviet Union) and became world champion. The wrestlers from the Soviet Union secured in seven of the eight competitions medals. Only Vladimir Rosin could come up with a fourth place in the weight category -70 kg not place on the medals.

Freestyle

The competitions in freestyle were held until June 23, 1962 by 21. Even in free style proved the wrestlers from the Soviet Union their strength: With three gold and one silver medal they were first, followed closely by the Iranians who each won gold and two silver medals. The Japanese were a gold, two silver and one bronze medal third parties. The most interesting battle took place in the 97 kg weight class, as two of the greatest freestyle wrestler of all time, Gholamreza Takhti (Iran ) and Alexander Medved (Soviet Union), came together. Medved was victorious in this battle and was for the first time world champion. The German Wilfried Dietrich won a bronze medal in the freestyle.
