The MA Chidambaram Stadium is a cricket stadium in the Indian city of Chennai. The current name refers to the former president of the Indian Cricket Association (BCCI ), MA Chidambaram, back. Earlier, the court was led stage also under the names Madras Cricket Club Ground and Chepauk. The MA Chidambaram Stadium is located in Chepauk district and now serves among other things as the home of the Indian Premier League clubs Chennai Super Kings and was in all Cricket World Cups, which were used in India, the venue.

Capacity & Infrastructure

Originally, the stadium had a capacity of about 36,000 watching. With regard to the Cricket World Cup 2011 renovations were undertaken, which have expanded the capacity to a total of 50,000 spectators. The floodlights were installed for the Cricket World Cup 1996 back. The ends are called Anna Pavilion End and V. Pattabhiraman gate end.

International Cricket

The first test match was played here in February 1934 against England. Of particular importance is the home ground for the Indian National Cricket Team, as it took its first test match victory here when it defeated England in 1951. At the Cricket World Cup numerous games were also held in this stadium. At the Cricket World Cup 1987, there were two group matches, the Cricket World Cup 1996 quarter -finals and the Cricket World Cup 2011, four preliminary round games.

Use in IPL

In the Indian Premier League, the stadium serves as the home of the Chennai Super Kings who could win the championship in 2010. In the 2011 edition, another play-off game and the finals were also held in this stadium.
