Maamun al-Kuzbari

Maamun ( Ma'mun ) Shafiq al - Kuzbari (Arabic مأمون الكزبري, DMG Ma ʾ mun al - Kuzbari; * 1914 in Shagour, Damascus; † 2 March 1998 in Beirut, Lebanon) was a Syrian politician.

Study

After school he studied international law at the University of Lyon and was after a career as a lawyer after all a professor at the University of Damascus.

Political career

Kuzbari began his political career in the independent Syrian republic in 1952 with the election of Members of Parliament as a representative of Damascus. From the Parliament he was subsequently elected speaker until Parliament was dissolved in 1953 after the military coup of Adib al- Shishakli. After the fall of Shishakli on 25 February 1954, he was due to his previous position as Speaker of the Parliament for two days sitting head of state, before he handed to Khalid Hashim al - Atassi, the Office of the President on 28 February 1954.

In the subsequent elections, he was again elected Members of Parliament and took over in the next four years to February 1958 in the Cabinets of Presidents al - Atassi and Shukri al - Quwatli alternately the offices of the Minister of Justice ( February-September 1955), education ( September 1955-June 1956 ) and of Labour and social Affairs. In May 1956 he became acting president of the University of Damascus. In February 1958, he belonged to the Syrian government delegation to sign the union with Egypt, which became the United Arab Republic (UAR ).

When it came to the dissolution of the UAR on September 27, 1961, after the coup of the Syrian army, he was commissioned on 29 September 1961 as President with the formation of a provisional government, which mainly belonged to technocrats and university teachers. In this government, he himself took over as Acting President of the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Defence. In his role as head of state he called a general election two months after the formation of his government, in order to achieve the democratic rule and the legitimacy of the people. In 1964 he went into exile in Morocco and went up to his death, not back into politics.
