Madre de Deus, Bahia

Madre de Deus (Portuguese: Mother of God) is an island and town in the All Saints Bay (Brazil ) and was founded in 1990. The previous name was Cururupebas (based on Cururu ). The island is located about 60 kilometers from the capital of Bahia, Salvador da Bahia away and can be easily reached via the connected roads.

On the 11 km ² island of 16,783 people live, which corresponds to a population density of 1,385 inhabitants per km ². Like most places in the state of Bahia is also on the island of Madre de Deus, the climate is tropical. It is located 8 meters above the sea level.

On the island there are several stations of the company Petrobras.

The island has three beaches:

  • Praia da Costa
  • Praia da Ponta do Suape
  • Praia de Cação

Tourism

During carnival time, the Madre festival takes place, which attracts many thousands of visitors to the island.

Sports

The football club Madre de Deus Sport Clube was founded on 22 January 2002 and qualified in 2008 at the second place in the second league in Bahia
