Madrid Chamartín railway station

Chamartín (Spanish: Estación de Chamartín ) station in the north of Madrid, is one of the two main railway stations in the Spanish capital.

It was built for the World Cup in 1982 and then broke the Atocha railway station near the city center from. After the Atocha railway station was completely rebuilt in 1992, including for the AVE high speed train Chamartín gradually lost importance. The completion of the high-speed line Madrid- Valladolid in December 2007, however Chamartín experienced another boom because since then start from here the high-speed connections to the north of the country.

On Christmas night in 2003, an attack by ETA on the Chamartín train station could be prevented.

In addition to the long-distance transport Chamartín is linked since 1982 to line 10 of the Madrid Metro. Since 30 March 2007 Line 1 connects the station with the city center. In addition, the Cercanías Madrid connects the Chamartín train station with a total of seven lines via Tunel de la risa to the Atocha train station and the city center.

The station building is to be renovated and expanded in the wake of the Operación Chamartín in the coming years.
