Madrugada (band)

Madrugada ( Spanish / Portuguese: dawn ) was an indie rock band from Stokmarknes ( Norway). The sound of the band can be described as melancholic and powerful, a style they strengthened over time to now five studio albums.

Band History

Madrugada went in 1995 from the band 's Abbey forth adoption. After initial successes in Norway they gained with their first album Industrial Silence ( published in 2000 ) a high degree of popularity throughout Europe and beyond.

2002 left drummer Jon Pettersen Lauvland the band and was replaced by Simen Vangen, the drumming on the third album Grit and on the following concerts. He left the band two years later in favor of other projects again. On the fourth album, The Deep End, although he plays in seven out of twelve songs drums, but the booklet of the album has no drummer more than a band member. The band continued to exist as a trio. Live they were now supported by Erland Dahlen, who played in the remaining five songs by The Deep End drums.

Very appreciated by the fans live qualities of the group were first time in 2005 held on the album Live at Tralfamadore ( The Tralfamadore in the title is not an actual (event ) location, but a reference to the fictional alien world that Kurt Vonnegut 's novel Slaughterhouse 5 or the Children's Crusade described ).

In May 2007, the band began the recording of a new studio album. Unexpectedly, guitarist and founding member Robert Buras was found dead in his apartment on July 12, 2007. He was until a few days actively engaged before his death, to write new songs for both Madrugada as well as his own side project My Midnight Creeps. Buras was 31 years old. No information was given to the cause of death.

Singer Sivert Høyem and bassist Frode Jacobsen finally decided to meet the original time frame and met in the fall of 2007 with John Agnello, her producer and sound engineer to continue the recordings in Gramophone studio in Gothenburg and finish in November in New York, and mix. On 10 December 2007, the single Look Away Lucifer appeared, the album Madrugada was first released on 21 January 2008, only in Norway, since 9 May 2008, is also available in Germany.

In August 2008 Madrugada announced that they will retire after Christmas 2008 for an indefinite period. Whether a comeback is planned, was not known. It is being worked on, yet to publish unpublished material. 2010 appeared a new edition of the first album Industrial Silence as a Deluxe Edition, remastered and with a second CD containing B-sides and unreleased tracks from the time of the album. In Scandinavia also a double CD with the programmatic title The Best of Madrugada appeared under the 28 songs there is with all this wanting to be free an unpublished piece that is created during the production of the last studio album.
