Mahamakut Buddhist University

The Mahamakut University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย มหา ม กุ ฏ ราช วิทยาลัย, RTGS: Mahawitthayalai Mahamakut Ratchawitthayalai; Mahamakut English Buddhist University, MBU ) is one of two Buddhist universities in Thailand. Its head office is located on the grounds of Wat Bowonniwet in Bangkok. She is assigned to the Thammayut Order.

History

The history of Mahamakut University can be traced back over a century. In 1893, King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) in memory of his father, King Mongkut (Rama IV ) founded the Royal Academy Mahamakut ( มหา ม กุ ฏ ราช วิทยาลัย ). The objectives of the Academy were:

Divisions

The Mahamakut University is divided into several departments and institutes: Faculty of Religion and Philosophy, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences.

International cooperation

The Mahamakut University has announced a collaboration with the " Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies " at Oxford University.

2005 hosted the MBU the "Fourth World Buddhist Summit". Emissary of Buddhist associations from 23 countries participated, the event had a total of 3700 participants.
