Make Poverty History

Your voice against poverty is a joint campaign by VENRO as the governing body of Development NGOs, the artist Herbert Grönemeyer and friendly professionals from the PR and media industry in Germany. The aim of the action and its supporters is the timely implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. With the help of concerts, public relations campaigns, protests and petitions, the governments of the world to be reminded of the Millennium Declaration of the United Nations in 2000, should be 2015 poverty and hunger in the world is reduced according to the by the year by half or even completely eliminated.

Your voice against poverty is the German contribution to the global campaign network Global Call to Action Against Poverty ( GCAP ). In many English-speaking countries, the respective campaigns as Make Poverty History are known.

History

Special recognition gained the campaign in the summer of 2005 by protests in Edinburgh and the worldwide Live 8 concerts with an estimated 3 billion ( television ) viewers, which took place during the G8 summit in Scotland. For the G8 summit in Heiligendamm in 2007 hosted Your voice against poverty on June 7, a big concert with bands, artists and personalities such as Bob Geldof, Bono, Herbert Grönemeyer, Muhammad Yunus, Youssou N'Dour, Seeed, Sportfreunde Stiller, Beatsteaks, The Toten Hosen, Jan Josef Liefers and many more. 70,000 visitors were at the concert in Rostock there, the ticket cost € 2.50 processing fee.

The campaign collected via an online form voices of thousands of people against poverty. World Vision Germany handed them on 1 July 2009 Bernd Pfaffenbach, the relevant Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, also known as G8 sherpa.

The White Ribbon is the symbol for the joint global campaign to overcome poverty. It is worn by supporters of the action around the world. On special days of action - the so-called White Band Days - mention is made jointly to address the concerns of Your voice against poverty.
