Makedonikos B.C.

Makedonikos (Greek Μακεδονικός ) is a Greek basketball club based in Thessaloniki, whose professional men's team had its headquarters between 2001 and 2006 in Kozani.

History

Makedonikos rose for the first time in its history in 2001 to the highest league in Greece. Up to this time the club played in Thessaloniki, where he was also founded in 1928. Given the fact that already three first division club in Thessaloniki played (Aris, Iraklis and PAOK), the president and club owner Konstantinos Mesaikos opted for a move to his club about 150 km west location Kozani. By this measure, he promised himself primarily a higher audience response, as in Thessaloniki, between the Fanlagern the large, long-established clubs, were seen to have little chance of being able to maintain long-term class. At this time Makedonikos was an integral part of the Greek Basketball League and managed to bring significant annual Greek basketball players such as Georgios Sigalas or Dimitris Papanikolaou to Kozani.

The greatest international success achieved Makedonikos under coach Argiris Pedoulakis in the 2004/2005 season in the ULEB Cup. After the club had already taken care of in the previous year in the same competition for attention, he came in the following year reached the final, where he then but just with 74:78 was defeated by Lietuvos Rytas from Lithuania.

At the beginning of the 2006-2007 season the team went back to Thessaloniki.
