The BC Lietuvos Rytas is the major basketball club from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. It belongs next to Zalgiris Kaunas at the two top basketball clubs in Lithuania. In addition to the Lithuanian LKL the club plays in the VTB League and permanently in the European club competitions. The name donated the largest Lithuanian daily Lietuvos Rytas, which ( together with TV3 ) has, inter alia, its own sports hall and Lietuvos Rytas Television. The club takes part in the game operation of the Lithuanian LKL, VTB and the Euro League ( 2012/ 13).

History

BC Lietuvos Rytas was founded in 1964 in the Soviet period under the name Statyba and participated in 17 Soviet championships. The best finish was a third place in the season 1978 / 79th Under the old name of the club took after the independence of Lithuania in four LBL championships. After the takeover of the club by the largest Lithuanian daily Lietuvos Rytas 1997, the club became the main opponent of BC Zalgiris Kaunas traditional clubs in the National League.
