Makuhari Messe

The Makuhari Messe (Japanese幕張メッセ) is one of the most well-known convention centers in Japan. The convention center is located in Nakase, Mihama -ku in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture to the west of, near Tokyo.

Building complex

The building complex consists of the International Exhibition Hall 1-11 (国际 展示 场, Kokusai Tenjijo ), the International Convention Centre (国际 会议 场, Kokusai kaigijō ) and the Makuhari Event Hall (幕張 イベント ホール, Makuhari ebento HorU ) on a total area of ​​approximately 210,000 m². In the area there is parking for 6,000 vehicles.

History

The convention center was completed in the late 1980s and opened. The building was designed by the renowned and award-winning Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki.

The building was first called Nippon Convention Center (日本 コンベンション センター, Nippon konbenshon Senta ). On 1 July 2005 the name was changed by the operator firm in Makuhari Messe. The name of the building was borrowed from Makuhari, the name of the business district, and the German word fair.

Transport links

Makuhari Messe is located between downtown Tokyo and Narita International Airport, and relatively close to Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu and the black sand beaches in the Pacific Chiba Prefecture. It has good transport links, and can be reached by the Keiyo Line JR East from the JR Kaihin - Makuhari Station.

Events

Exhibitions

The exhibition center provides suitable conditions for high-tech events. It is a traditional venue of the Tokyo Auto Salon (annual auto show in January), the Tokyo Game Show (annual video game and hardware exhibition in September ) and the Jump Festa (annual manga, anime and video game exhibition in December ). Concerts

On 2 July 2005, the Japanese Live 8 concert with, among others, McFly, Good Charlotte and Björk took place here, which was also the first Live 8 concert.

More concerts in Chiba were the power plant and Jack Johnson.
