Malden Center (MBTA-Station)

Malden Center is a breakpoint in Malden, Massachusetts in the United States. The station provides access to the Orange Line of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ), as well as guidelines for the MBTA Commuter Rail on the railway line Boston Wilmington Junction.

History

The station was opened on December 27, 1975 as part of the northern extension of the Orange Line, which the Charlestown Elevated replaced. For a long time was the desire of the Boston Elevated Railway, the city of Malden to the network of Orange Line to connect, but the residents were against the construction of an additional elevated track. Therefore, the new railways were conducted along the existing railway line to Haverhill.

Building

The building is located at the Pleasant Street in Malden. The station is one of the few remaining stations in the MBTA rapid transit system that is above ground. Most of the others were transferred to the demolition of the Atlantic Avenue Elevated, Charlestown Elevated, Washington Street Elevated Causeway Street Elevated and underground. Since 2004, the station is accessible.

As part of the Arts on the Line of the MBTA project a total of 32 works of art to local school classes are shown reproduced on 16 tiles in the station. Furthermore, the works of art " Sunbather " of Letia Anderson and " Seated Man" by Angel Maldanado are presented.
