The Pyreae form a tribe in the subfamily Spiraeoideae the rose family. The tribe includes the subtribes of pome fruit crops ( Pyrinae ) and the following three genera:

The pome fruit crops were formerly performed as subfamily Pyrinae of the rose family. Molecular genetic studies have shown that they form a group within the Spiraeoideae. Potter et al. the group have therefore defined as subtribe Pyrinae. The base chromosome numbers of Pyreae x = 17, x = 15, the genus Vauquelinia
