Mammillaria albilanata

Mammillaria albilanata is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet means ' white wool '.

Description

Mammillaria albilanata that weißwollige Mammillaria has a rough cylindrical gray-green body with sometimes more than 15 centimeters height and 8 inches in diameter. The warts are gray-green and arranged spirally. They are firm and do not have milky sap. The white-haired axillae are filled with coarse wool. Approximately 15 to 26 stiff white spines with a length of 2 to 4 millimeters and a slightly dark top are crowned 2-4 central spines stiff. The central spines are straight white to off-white with brownish tip and only 2 to 3 millimeters long.

The flowers are only 7 millimeters long and deep carmine-pink, purple-pink colored to pink. The fruits are pink to red. They have light brown seeds.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Mammillaria albilanata is common in the Mexican states of Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Chiapas and Colima.

The first description was in 1939 by Curt Backeberg.

We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Mammillaria albilanata subsp. albilanata: Synonyms are Mammillaria fuauxiana Backeb. (1950), Mammillaria albilanata var fuauxiana ( Backeb. ) E.Kuhn ( 1984) ( nom. inval. ICBN article 33.3), Mammillaria gracilis var albilanata B.Hofmann (1985) ( nom. inval. ICBN article 36.1 and 37.1), Mammillaria ingualensis Repp. (1987) and Mammillaria ingualensis var palmillensis Repp. (1987). The flowers are deep crimson. The nominate only comes in the Mexican states of Guerrero, Puebla, Colima and Chiapas ago at altitudes between 500 to 2000 meters.
  • Mammillaria albilanata subsp. oaxacana D. R. Hunt: The first description was in 1997 by David Richard Hunt. Synonyms are Mammillaria ignota Repp. (1987 ), Mammillaria lanigera Repp. (1987 ), Mammillaria lanigera var juxtlahuacensis Repp. (1987 ), Mammillaria monticola Repp. (1987) and Mammillaria noureddineana Repp. (1987). The subspecies has ruby to pink flowers. It occurs at altitudes of 700-2400 meters only in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
  • Mammillaria albilanata subsp. reppenhagenii ( D. R. Hunt) D. R. Hunt: The first description was in 1977 as Mammillaria reppenhagenii by David Richard Hunt 1997, DR Hunt the species as a subspecies of Mammillaria albilanata. A synonym is Mammillaria reppenhagenii DRHunt (1977). The subspecies has crimson flowers that Perianthsegmente are provided with bright edges. It occurs at altitudes of 900-1300 meters only in the Mexican state of Colima.
  • Mammillaria albilanata subsp. tegelbergiana ( H.E. Gates ex G. E. Lindsay ) D. R. Hunt: The first description was in 1966 as Mammillaria tegelbergiana by George Edmund Lindsay ( 1916-2002 ). David Richard Hunt presented the way in 1997 as a subspecies of Mammillaria albilanata. Synonyms are Mammillaria tegelbergiana HEGates ex GELindsey (1966) and Mammillaria albilanata var tegelbergiana ( HEGates ex GELindsey ) E.Kuhn ( 1984) ( nom. inval. ICBN article 33.3). The subspecies has purplish pink flowers. It occurs at altitudes of 700-2200 meters only in the Mexican state of Chiapas.

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, than not led at risk. The subspecies were not recorded separately.
