The Manas International Airport ( Kyrgyz « Манас » эл - аралык аэропорту, Russian Международный аэропорт " Манас ") is the airport of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek. The airport is located 35 km northwest of the capital. It is named ( epic ) to the Kyrgyz national epic Manas.

The grounds also the Manas Air Base is located. This military airfield is operated by the Air Force of the United States. The U.S. and other allies to use the base to supply its forces in Afghanistan.

Military Base

Built in 2002, the U.S. Air Force because of its geographical proximity to Afghanistan, the Manas Air Base. Originally the base for the New York Fire Department Chief Peter J. Ganci, Jr. was named ( Ganci Air Base ), who was in the attacks on September 11, 2001 in New York among the victims. The runway is one of the longest in the region.

The military base is also used by another eleven active in Afghanistan States. In 2006 the ever stopped there to about 1,200 NATO soldiers. The base is used so far mainly for the supply of U.S. and ISAF forces in Afghanistan. The annual rent for the base was increased from 20 million to 150 million U.S. dollars in 2006. In the population, the U.S. soldiers are unpopular, not least because of the shooting of an unarmed Uzbeks along with several other incidents.
