The Manchester Arena is an indoor arena in Manchester, United Kingdom. The arena, which was until 2004 Venue professional hockey and basketball teams now serves mainly as a concert hall. It is located in the north of the city center, close to Victoria Station and is owned by the Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns among other things, the Staples Center in Los Angeles or The O ₂ in London.

History

The arena was named after a British cable television provider, opened on 15 July 1995 under the name NYNEX Arena. From 1998 to 2011 she was named Manchester Evening News Arena, which emerges from a sponsorship agreement with the local newspaper Manchester Evening News. Since 2012 she is wearing only the name Manchester Arena. Originally, the arena in support of the ultimately unsuccessful applications Olympics the city of Manchester was built in 1996 and 2000.
