Mandalay (Band)

Mandalay was an English band from London, which can be assigned to the Trip Hop.

History

When separated Saul Freeman of the Thieves and thus of David McAlmont, he sought by advertisement in the music magazine Melody Maker a suitable singer to implement his vision of " soulful music " with the formation of a new band. " A song is determined by the song, behind a big voice must withdraw everything." Was his idea. The female voice should sound like Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins or Shara Nelson of Massive Attack. When Nicola Hitchcock announced on his display, he saw that she was able to meet this demand, as they had not only the harmonious power of expression, but also on the linguistic devices that seemed to miss the personal touch Freemans sound. After an intensive studio work of six months, the album Empathy appeared. Curiously, this album is often traded on the Internet as an unreleased album by the group Portishead. Guest musicians on this album is the trumpeter Jon Hassell.

Mid-2000 changed Mandalay to the major label V2 Records. Here the album Instinct ( Europe) and appeared Solace (USA).
