Salmon and sea trout up Kavfossen north of Bjelland swim up the river - a river distance of 48 km. Salmon can also hike up the creek Kosana a piece.

In 2006, 11.9 tonnes of salmon and sea trout 675 kg caught in the Mandal. This is a new Angel record in recent times. The largest salmon weighed 13.9 kg. The river was the sixth best salmon fishing in Norway after the introduction in the river with the addition of lime in 1997 in 2006.
