Manfred, Duke of Athens

Manfred of Sicily (c. 1307; † November 9, 1317 in Trapani ) was a Duke of Athens. He was a son of King Frederick II of Sicily and Eleanor of Anjou, a daughter of King Charles II of Naples.

1312 Manfred was appointed by his father to the Duke of Athens, after that State had previously conquered in the year of the Catalan company at the Battle of Kephissos and were offered to the King of Sicily. As Manfred was still a minor, Berenguer Estanyol was sent to Greece as a vicar who was to rule there in his name. Estanyol stabilized the rule of the Catalans and defended it against the neighbors, especially Venice and the Anjou from Naples. After Estanyol had died in 1317, took over Manfred's older half- brother, Alfonso Fadrique, the Vicariate.

Manfred died in late 1317, when he fell from his horse during a hunting trip near Trapani. He has never set foot in his duchy.
