The island of Mannar (Tamil: . மன்னார் தீவு Mannar tivù, English Mannar Iceland ) is an island in the Mannar district of Sri Lanka. The island is connected by a causeway to the rest of Sri Lanka. It is about 130 square kilometers and covers a large part with plants and sand. The Adam's Bridge is a 30 -kilometer-long chain of sand banks, coral reefs and islands between India and Sri Lanka. It runs from the Pamban Island, which is upstream of the southeast coast of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, and ends in Talaimannar on the island of Mannar. It is believed that the bridge was a land bridge between India and Sri Lanka once.

Between 1914 and 1964 there was a railway and ferry service from India through Dhanushkodi and Talaimannar to Colombo, but this compound was not following the devastating damage caused by a cyclone in 1964, repaired.

Since the island is dry and barren, the fishing is economically important.

The majority of the inhabitants live in Mannar and Erukkulampiddi on the east coast and Pesalai on the north coast, all of which are connected by the A14 road, which goes across the bridge to the mainland of Sri Lanka.
