Manokotak is a city in Dillingham Census Area, Alaska. It is located in the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge at the northern end of Nushagak Peninsula. According to the 2000 census, there lived 399 people.

Geography

Manokotak is located on Igushik River, about 40 km southwest of Dillingham.

History

Manokotak was 1946/1947 through the merger of the villages Igushik and Tuklung. Also, people have moved from Kulukak, Togiak and Aleknagik. 1958-59, a school house was built in 1960 and opened a post office. 1970 was the site of a town.

Traffic

Manokotak is reachable from the air and over the water. The Manokotak Airport ( IATA code KMO ) State Airport is 1.5km north of town. The Igushik River meanders very strong, so since 1998, leads a 10-km long road to a boat landing site on the Snake River. ATVs and snowmobiles are the usual local transport.
