Manuel Gálvez

Manuel Gálvez ( born July 18, 1882 in Paraná, Entre Ríos Province, † November 14, 1962 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine historian and writer.

Life

Gálvez comes from the upper classes of his country. His family were wealthy landowners and one of his ancestors, Juan de Garay was instrumental in the founding of Buenos Aires.

His school days he attended the Jesuit college of his native city; then he went to the capital to study at the university and a law degree. In 1904 he was able to complete this study successfully.

At the age of 86 years Manuel Gálvez died on 14 November 1962 in Buenos Aires and found his final resting place in the cemetery of La Recoleta.

Honors

In the district of Recoleta ( Buenos Aires ) on the Plaza Vicente López a monument to him was erected in honor.

Reception

Along with Ricardo Rojas Gálvez is one of the important representatives of Hispanidad movement, which relied on the return of the Spanish roots and thus on the move to Spain, and in a broader sense to Europe.
